SERAPI RUG | 2.86 x 1.98 M.

This is known as Serapi carpet. The origin of Serapi carpet is what was known as the Sarab region of Persia, now located in Azerbaijan and northern Iran. Original Serapi rugs were created in the villages of Serapi, Sarab, Ahar, Heriz and Gorevan. It employed symmetrical knots with cotton foundation and a wool pile. The designs of Serapi carpets are Medallion and Geometric. The Serapi rugs can be readily identified by their rectilinear designs and highly stylized geometric detailing that often features a pure blue or blue and ivory large medallion on a field of deep red or terracotta.
